The Opportunity

We’re hiring a junior-to-mid-level Criminal Defense Associate (1–5 years’ experience). Candidates who are newly licensed in Virginia will be considered if they demonstrate a strong commitment to criminal defense and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment. This position offers immediate courtroom experience, direct mentorship from senior attorneys, and a clear path to lead-trial responsibilities. You will begin by managing your own misdemeanor and traffic cases while second-chairing more complex DUI and felony matters.

Core Responsibilities

• Appear in General District and Circuit Courts for hearings, motions, trials, and sentencing.

• Handle client intake, discovery, negotiations, legal drafting, and overall case strategy.

• Work collaboratively with our talented legal assistants to ensure seamless case preparation, scheduling, and client communication.

• Collaborate with senior attorneys on serious felony and DUI cases.

• Conduct in-depth legal research and craft persuasive pleadings, motions, and briefs.

• Maintain meticulous records in our cloud-based CMS.

• Provide clear, compassionate guidance that treats every client like family.

• Contribute to firm growth through community outreach, CLE participation, and knowledge sharing.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Active Virginia bar license in good standing.

• 1–5 years’ experience in criminal practice (defense, prosecution, or judicial clerkship).

• Confident courtroom presence and strong oral advocacy.

• Excellent research and writing skills.

• Self-motivated, deadline-driven, and collaborative.

Desired Qualifications

• Spanish fluency or other language skills.

• Familiarity with Virginia DUI law (breath testing, blood draws, refusal cases).

• Interest in legal content creation, mentoring, or community engagement.
