LYNCHBURG FAILURE TO YIELD ATTORNEY

Local, experienced traffic defense for drivers throughout the Lynchburg area and Central Virginia.

A Failure to Yield Charge Can Be More Serious Than a Ticket

Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle can happen quickly, especially when traffic is heavy or a driver has little time to react. Depending on the circumstances, some violations involving emergency vehicles may be charged as reckless driving rather than a routine traffic infraction.

Battlefield Law Group represents drivers facing failure-to-yield, Move Over, reckless driving, and other serious traffic charges throughout Lynchburg and the surrounding Central Virginia communities.

Moving Emergency Vehicles and Virginia's Move Over Law

Virginia law addresses different situations involving emergency vehicles.

When an emergency vehicle approaches using the required lights and audible signals, drivers are generally required to yield, move toward the nearest edge of the roadway, and stop until it passes.

Virginia's Move Over law applies to certain stationary emergency and service vehicles displaying warning lights. Depending on the roadway and traffic conditions, a driver may be required to move into a nonadjacent lane when it can be done safely or slow down and proceed with caution when changing lanes is not reasonable.

The exact charge on your summons matters.

What Happened on the Road Matters

A traffic citation does not always tell the complete story. We look at traffic, visibility, roadway conditions, warning signals, and whether the driver could reasonably and safely respond in the moment. Those details can be particularly important on heavily traveled Lynchburg-area roads such as Route 460, Route 29, Wards Road, and Timberlake Road.

When available, video, photographs, witness accounts, and other evidence may also help establish what actually happened.

Local Traffic Defense in the Lynchburg Area

Traffic defense is a significant part of Battlefield Law Group's practice in Central Virginia. From our Forest office, attorney Robert W. Yurkowski represents drivers in the City of Lynchburg and throughout Bedford, Campbell, Amherst, Appomattox, and Nelson counties.

Rob's experience in the Lynchburg area gives our clients local representation backed by a firm that regularly handles serious traffic and criminal matters across Virginia.

Before You Pay the Ticket

Paying an eligible Virginia traffic citation is not simply paying a fee. Prepaying generally means pleading guilty and giving up your opportunity to appear in court to challenge the charge.

Before you pay a failure-to-yield or Move Over ticket, make sure you understand what you were charged with and how a conviction could affect your driving record.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER

While we represent drivers charged with these violations, Battlefield Law Group strongly supports the laws designed to protect first responders and others working along Virginia roadways.

That importance was felt deeply in our own community in August 2026, when Appomattox County Deputy Burlie W. Duvall III was killed while assisting at a crash scene on Route 460 in Campbell County. His emergency vehicle and another deputy's vehicle were positioned at the scene with emergency equipment activated when he was struck by an approaching tractor-trailer.

In Deputy Duvall's memory, please slow down, move over when it is safe to do so, and give first responders the space they need to do their jobs safely.
